There are many scholarship programmes available to help you pursue your study abroad semester, internship, or research for your thesis. For most of these, you can apply directly through the International Office. You can find the individual programmes on this website. Additionally, international 鶹ýӳ students can apply for funding opportunities to support their studies, like the Deutschlandstipendium, which you can find in our Career & Development Service.

What is Erasmus+?

The Erasmus+ programme is a funding programme by the European Union in the area of education, training, sport and youth that has now been around for more than 30 years. In higher education it promotes the mobility of students, staff and teaching staff within the 34 programme countries and, with the new generation from 2021-2027, international mobilities to partner countries are also eligible.

What goals does Erasmus+ pursue?

Erasmus+ wants to:

  • Strengthen the international competences, personal development and employability of students
  • Promote the modernisation, internationalisation and qualitative improvement of higher education in Europe
  • Increase the attractiveness of the EU as a place to study and research
  • Contribute to the sustainable development of higher education in developing countries

STIBET-I and DAAD Prize

The STIBET programme, which is funded by the DAAD with funds from the Federal Foreign Office, supports international students with scholarships and mentoring. The aim of the programme is to create a welcoming and supportive environment at universities.

International students at 鶹ýӳ on a full-time Bachelor's or Master's programme can apply if they meet all the requirements.

Every year, one international student at 鶹ýӳ Campus Heidelberg is chosen to receive the DAAD Prize. The schools of 鶹ýӳ, the university communities, student associations, and the international team committee are invited to nominate suitable candidates. The prize is worth 1,000 euros.

PROMOS

The Promos programme of the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) is funded by the BMBF (Federal Ministry of Education and Research). It consists of a one-off travel allowance in accordance as well as an additional allowance between 250-550€/month, depending on the respectively applicable PROMOS country list of the DAAD (which varies from country to country and is subject to sufficient funding from the DAAD, so no guarantee).

  • Study abroad (1-6 months): PROMOS is available for stays at universities outside of Europe as well as universities in Europe that are not an Erasmus+ partner. The funding rates for studies abroad are between 350-550€ per month, depending on the destination country.
  • Internships abroad (6 weeks-6 months): PROMOS is available for internships outside of Europe, so long as they cannot be funded through Erasmus+. The funding rates for internships are also between 350-550€ per month.

  • Stays abroad in the first half of the year: 31 March; the application portal opens on 1 February
  • Stays abroad in the second half of the year: 31 July; the application portal opens on 1 June

Baden-Württemberg Scholarship

The Baden-Württemberg Scholarship allows students from Baden-Württemberg (Karlsruhe, Stuttgart, and Heidelberg) as well as from abroad to spend a semester at a university in the respective other country. It offers you the opportunity to explore new cultures, build international networks, and promote academic exchange.

The application is made directly through the

  • Outgoings (students from Baden-Württemberg): at least €600 per month
  • Incomings (students from abroad): at least €700 per month

The funding is provided as a monthly flat rate and is based on the duration of your stay, which must be at least three months.

Deadline for outgoing students: 20 April 2025

Applications are submitted directly via the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung portal. A complete application includes

  • Application form (available on the foundation's portal)
  • Proof of enrolment
  • Letter of motivation (max. 2 DIN A4 pages) for the choice of partner university
  • Curriculum vitae in tabular form
  • Current overview of grades from your previous studies
  • Language certificates (if required, e.g. TOEFL, IELTS)
  • Proof of commitment (voluntary work, special personal circumstances)

International Research Experience@鶹ýӳ - Your scholarship for international research experience

Research abroad made easy

The International Research Experience@鶹ýӳ scholarship supports Master's students and doctoral candidates who want to combine their research with experience abroad and intercultural exchange. This scholarship offers you the opportunity to gain valuable scientific and cultural experience and advance your academic career.

As part of the DAAD project "International Research Experience @鶹ýӳ", the HAW.International scholarship supports students and doctoral candidates who are planning a research stay abroad. The aim is to promote and expand international networking and the research strength of 鶹ýӳ.

  • For Master's students: Support for the preparation of the Master's thesis or a research internship abroad (max. 6 months).
  • For doctoral students: Support for a research stay abroad (max. 6 months).

You can apply via the online portal of the 鶹ýӳ International Office. The scholarship covers accommodation costs for up to six months, depending on your degree programme and destination country.

  • Enrolment: At 鶹ýӳ in a Master's degree programme or as a doctoral candidate.
  • Language skills: At least B2 level in English (certified).
  • No double funding: Applicants may not apply for any other scholarships at the same time.
  • Research objective: The Master's or doctorate should be completed after the stay abroad at 鶹ýӳ.

Scholarship holders are selected on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Motivation and added value: your personal motivation and the benefit of the stay abroad for your research project.
  • Intercultural interest: Willingness to exchange ideas with international partners.
  • Achievements: Very good academic results and commitment within or outside the university.

The selection committee will decide within six weeks of the application deadline on the awarding of scholarships.

  1. Fill in the online form: Via the 鶹ýӳ application portal.
  2. Upload documents: CV, letter of motivation, description of research project, transcripts of records, letter of invitation from the host university and language certificate.
  3. Notification: The selection committee will make a decision within six weeks of the application deadline.

The application periods for the HAW.International scholarship are:

  • 01 February to 01 March
  • 01 June to 01 July
  • 01 October to 01 November

Erasmus+ Digital Exchange Projects: Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs)

Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) offer you the opportunity to study abroad even if you don't have the time or budget for a longer semester abroad. These programmes combine attendance phases with virtual learning modules and therefore enable flexible participation.

  • Virtual learning units: Preparation and follow-up of learning content online in order to learn independently of time and place.
  • Short-term mobility: At least 5 days attendance phase at one of the partner universities, enabling direct exchange and personal interaction.
  • Financial support: Short-term mobility is financially supported for students and lecturers, making it easier to realise participation in an international exchange.
  • Flexibility: Thanks to the virtual components, you can work on the course content from the comfort of your own home and still gain international experience.
  • Network building: Benefit from working with international students and lecturers and expand your professional and academic network.

Students and lecturers at 鶹ýӳ who are interested in international exchange programmes can apply for BIPs. The prerequisite is the cooperation of at least three European partner universities, which jointly design the programme.

  • Low-threshold access: Ideal for anyone who is not planning a longer stay abroad but would still like to gain international experience.
  • Academic networking: Teachers can exchange ideas with colleges

from other countries and develop new teaching methods together.

  • Creative collaboration: Students work in an intercultural team and benefit from new perspectives and learning approaches.
