Optimisation of risk and crisis communication of governments, authorities and health security organisations (MIRKKOMM) – sub-project: Analysing journalistic and prosumer risk and crisis communication

Brief description

The risk and crisis communication of governments, authorities and organizations, journalism and social media actors is analyzed using the example of the corona pandemic. Insights will be gained into how communication is prepared multimodally and how it works in the complex interaction of different actors and media in a crisis situation. Recommendations and further training will be developed so that all those involved in crisis situations can communicate with each other and prepare content more effectively and optimally in the future.

Central aspects in the analysis of risk and crisis communication by journalists and actors in social media (SMA) are: How do journalists and SMAs assess the crisis communication of government and authorities? How did journalists and SMAs deal with the information provided by governments and authorities and how did they prepare their reports multimodally? How do journalists and SMAs assess their own risk and crisis communication? Where do journalists and SMAs see a need for optimization in the crisis communication of governments and authorities and in their own?

The results of the MIRKKOMM research network were already presented during the project period in an innovative, digital and interactive science exhibition “#Krisenalltag - Kommunikation in der Pandemie” at the in 2023 and reopened at the in Schleswig-Holstein (10/2024 - 10/2025). The results will thus be made accessible to a wide audience.
